SLEPI.COM Acquired

It took me roughly 2 years plus 2.5 months of close and scrupulous observation of the domain SLEPI.COM, for me to successfully acquire it. It was parked at DirectNIC for years, before it expired on May 22th 2009. It’s unclear why DirectNIC finally dropped it, but it’s my chance to take the ownership of this precious domain (well, for me at least).

And thus I did some research how to successfully catch an expiring domain and I found an excellent blog post by Mike Davidson, dive thouroughly into its more-than-700-comment. Then I decided to place a backorder at GoDaddy, since it is my registrar of choice whenever I need to buy domain names. But after few more days of research, I found many people saying that GoDaddy sucks at the backorder business.

At final moments, I decided to use SnapNames too (in conjunction to backorder request I placed at GoDaddy previously). The final result was SnapNames did catch the domain successfully at August 8th 2009, once it became available after 30 days in “Redemption Period” status and 5 more days in “Pending Delete” status. And three days later at August 11 2009, after a 3-day auction at SnapNames as I’m not the only one interested in the domain, I am officially the owner of the domain SLEPI.COM :)

In addition, I decided also to buy SLEPI.ORG to complete my generic domain collection.
